About Our Church

Our History

Welcome to First Presbyterian Church located in Midlothian, Texas. Our church has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. We have been serving the community for over a century with a mission to spread the love and teachings of Jesus Christ. Our church is a place where all are welcome to worship, learn, and grow together in faith.

In 1911, two congregations merged to form Midlothian Presbyterian Church. One originally organized in 1883 under Pastor D.G. Malloy and was part of the Presbyterian Church of the United States of American (PCUSA). The other organized in 1890 under the Presbyterian Church in the United States (PCUS). Members of the newly merged church built a sanctuary from 1913-14. The congregation has a history of supporting the community, including helping with Manna House, a cooperative venture among Midlothian churches aiding needy local families. Members have also focused on missions on a national and global scale. Today, the church continues to be a beacon of light for the residents of Midlothian.

What We Believe

God: We believe in one God, whom we serve and worship, and in whom we place our full trust.  God is distinct in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  He is infinite, perfect, and desires that all persons should be saved.  As Father, God is faithful and just; the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ and loving in all His ways.  As Son, Jesus Christ is our Mediator with God, and by His death we are forgiven and granted eternal life with God.  As Holy Spirit, God works in us, comforts us and remains with us forever.

Sacraments: We believe in two sacraments – Holy Communion and Holy Baptism.  Through Holy Communion, the Word of God comes to us through bread and wine to nourish us and cause us to remember the sacrifice which Christ gave so that we might be saved.  Through Baptism, the Word of God comes through the water of life by which we are cleansed and engrafted into the Body of Christ.

Church:  We believe that the Church is a fellowship of sinners who embrace and worship God, and in which Jesus Christ acts as the Lord in Word and in Sacrament through the Holy Spirit.  As a community we are to bear witness of God to the world with our faith, our love, our message, and our obedience to Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Community

At First Presbyterian Church, we are more than just a church - we are a spiritual community. We believe that fellowship is an important part of our faith, and we strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. Whether you are new to the area or have been attending our church for years, we invite you to join us and become a part of our family.
